Learning how to use them properly means you\u2019ll never risk losing all your modifications when the developer releases a new version and you update the theme. Using easy-to-follow language, I\u2019ll walk you through the steps to set up a child theme on your laptop\u2019s WordPress installation and we\u2019ll make some tweaks together \u2013 from CSS adjustments to more substantial changes in functionality.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This workshop is suitable for:<\/strong><br \/>\n&#8211; You should be comfortable with HTML and CSS basics, and have at least a general sense of WordPress theme file structure.<br \/>\n&#8211; Some beginner PHP knowledge is helpful but not required.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Information:<\/strong><br \/>\nThe workshop instruction will be in English but there will be bilingual TAs and questions are welcome in French or English.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bring a laptop<\/strong> to follow along with the practical portion of the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need a fresh <strong>localhost<\/strong> install of WordPress set up on your laptop \u2013 we recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mamp.info\/\" target=\"_blank\">MAMP<\/a> for both Macs and PCs. Please have your local install of WP ready in advance. If you run into any trouble, we\u2019ll help you finish your setup in the first part of the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>Since most of the session is hands-on, if you aren&#8217;t able to bring a laptop, this workshop won&#8217;t be ideal for you.<\/p>\n<p><em>This is a hands-on workshop.
